Ang Chee Yong
Ang Chee Yong switched career paths from Electronic Telecommunication to be a full-time Ceramist. He graduated with high distinction in ceramics and distinction in drawings from the National Art School, Australia in 2012. He has won ‘The Ceramics Technical Prize” in Sydney Australia and has exhibited in Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Vietnam.
Major influences in Ang Chee Yong’s creative works are Bauhau (understand and study materials), Albert Gleizs (French Cubism), Marcel Duchamp (Rotoreliefs), Eduard Muygridge (Animal Location) and Fibonacei’s (Italian mathematician).
Along the same vein, he relishes experimenting with raw materials in glazes and different firing techniques. In his artwork (ceramics and drawing), he aspires to express time deposition through overlapping, layering, shifting planes or rotating its axis. Be that as it may, a simple timeless form reflecting the beauty of the glazes, yields as immensely powerful an experience.
In recent years, he has been an active committee member for Sculpture Society (Singapore) and Whampoa Ceramic Club.
